Gender Inequality

As a female living in the world today there are many inequalities that we face in the world. Some of the inequalities are just what people say or how people act. An easy example is when a woman likes superheros or star wars they are seen as “trendy” or “quirky” but if a woman actually likes the stories or the character they are made fun of or told by men that they can’t like superheros because it's a “man's thing.” Another big one is if a girl likes Brandy Melville and Starbucks they are seen as “basic” when really it is just something they like.

Another way gender inequality is shown is the fact that we are 53% of the population and only 23% of the United States senate. Only 10% of the police in America are women. Along with that they pay gaps for women who have gotten smaller but are still there. Male teachers make 10-13% more than female teachers make for doing the same job. This is also worse for women of color or of different religions.

Another way actions show that gender inequality is a thing is at the 2020 Oscars there was not a single women director nominated for the best director award. With that many women made incredible movies throughout the year, some of those movies were Little Women directed by Greta Gerwig, Booksmarts directed Olivia Wilde, and so many more incredible movies. Actions also are shown in high schools. Many highschools praise and share when the male sports teams play when many schools have very good teams for the girls.

Many people also see jobs as a man profession.  When women are just as capable to do the same job. A good example is construction jobs. Many people see construction as a man's profession when many women also are able to join a construction company and do the exact same job as men. Many women are just as strong as men when it comes to situations like work.

During this time of coronavirus countries with women leaders are shown as controlling the issue of the virus better than countries led by men. Those countries include New Zealand, Taiwan, and Iceland. These countries have been effective with helping and controlling the coronavirus. Due to these leaders taking immediate action they were able to control the coronavirus in their countries.

Gender inequality is a huge thing that happens in the United States today. Some big issues are pay gaps, actions, and the number of women that are in the government or law enforcement. This is a huge issue that needs to change especially with the debates to get rid of the 19th amendment and to change laws about women's bodies.
