Black Discrimination

One of the biggest issues found in America today is the discrimination between races. Though this issue was solved in 1950’s-1960’s with the Civil Rights movement discrimination is still shown in todays cultures. For one many Afriacn American men and women are seen to be criminals by the police. Therefore having a high number of deaths in police brutality. A way to show this is the fact that when a white male is pulled over and turns to reach for his wallet the police automatically assume it's his wallet but when a black male gets pulled over and reaches for his wallet the police think it's a gun. Most of the time this is false. African American are 5 times more likely to be incarcerated than a white. Along with that African Americans make up 40% of America's population.

There are many other issues involing discrimination. One that is found during the year of 2020 is protesting. While many African Americas have peaceful protests to gain their rights and show that their lives matter just like anyone else's many are arrested for standing up for themselves. Though this may not seem like a huge deal there are many white men storming State buildings with guns to prevent stay at home orders. While many African Americans are protesting peacefully with signs and no guns they are arrested, but these white civilians are protesting the safety of themselves and other Americans during this virus with guns and none of them are being arrested or even giving a warning.

This isn’t just a problem for African American adults this is affecting many children and teens in America. In one United States survey 15.8% of students were bullied based on their race. Along with that in 2015-2016 African American students made up 35% of students suspended, 44% of students suspended more than once and 36% of students that were expelled. The US Department of education concluded that the disparity “Not explained by more frequent or more serious misbehavior by students of color.”

Some other issues that show discriminate are 40% of African American receiving worse quality health care than white patients. African Americans and white americans use drugs at the same rate but African Americans are 6 times more likely to get arrested for drug usage. On average African American men who commit the same crime as a white male have jail sentences that are 19.1% longer than the white males. There are so many more facts that prove discrimination between people just because of their race.

One example that has come to the public eye recently is Ahmaud Arbery. Ahmaud Arbery was a black teenager that was taking a run on the street back in February when two white men got out of their car and shot him because they thought he was running because he was a robber. This whole incident was caught on camera and the police saw the video. But two men were not arrested until May 7th, 2020 because even though the cops knew who did it from the video they didn’t arrest them until the general public saw the video. No one should ever be discriminated against based on race or skin color.
